I ♥ The Baxter Theatre

There are few spaces in Cape Town that hold as many memories as the Baxter Theatre. This is a space that I have performed in, watched some amazing productions and spent many many hours of my life in. I am a theatre nut and I love all things on stage (ok that may be an over exaggeration, but I do enjoy most productions).

I have been lucky enough to perform on the Baxter stage in a variety of productions throughout my life, which school choirs and orchestra’s (yes some of you shouting nerd alert – this was me) and then in a number of dance performances. I clearly remember a production in Std 5 where I perfromed in The Little Mermaid and was The Coral Queen in the junior ballet production and then joined the older girls (a HUGE honour at only 12) for the Beatles number. Everytime I walk past the stage door I get bubbles of excitement as I remember my experience behind the scenes.

The building itself is an instituion with it’s unique lights and decor that makes you feel rather retro. I love the space and I am so lucky to have experienced so many wonderful shows, from comedy to ballet, Johnny Clegg, Jeremy Taylor, Cape Welsh Choir, District Six (seen on more than one occasion and honestly one of my favourite stage productions) and everything inbetween. Thank you to the Baxter for being such a special part of my life. I am sure there are plenty of you who share equally fabulous memories!
