Lady Gaga – What A Show!

Sheesh, the Lady Gaga concert in Cape Town snuck up on me like a ghost in a haunted house. I was so excited when I bought the tickets (months earlier) and then kind of forgot it was happening, life got busy and chaotic and all of a sudden it was the day of the concert.

KleeB and I made our way to the stadium via the train (awesome way to get to the concert – so wish public transport was better because I would totally make use of it). We did the fan walk and made our way to meet Haylz near Hudson’s. The crowds were crazy and it was still a little surreal that we were about to see this controversial performer. One the walk up to the stadium there were a bunch of fanatics handing out pamphlets about why Gaga was the devil … Urgh ignore!!

We eventually got into the stadium and walked up the 50 thousands steps to our seats right at the top. Woohooooo, it hit me! Eeeeeeek time for the show. The Darkness opened for her and they were epic. The crowd was dotted with lumo pink wigs and people dressed up and I was slightly ashamed of my lack of creativity (a couple of glittery sparkles were applied to our cheeks – thanks to Haylz).

And then it was time. GAGA emerged (quite literally)! That woman has a voice. Say what you like about her but she is one hell of a performer, who has a pretty good message – be yourself and love yourself for who you are. She exudes individuality and this is evident in her fans. I think she is pretty cool. She even invited a few of her “monsters” onto stage with her. Which was such a rad idea – until one chick thought she could just take over and actually scooted Gaga off her mic and sang (really badly) to a stadium full of cringing fans. Eish that was unpleasant to listen to!

But the show carried on … and on … It is not often you go to a concert and the performer stays for longer than 2 hours MAX. Not Gaga – she sang and sang and sang and only left the stage after 23h30. She rocked the stadium. I was absolutely impressed with her performance and energy and not to mention she has one of the most epic dancers in her crew. Mark from SYTYCD!

Thanks for rocking Cape Town Gaga – you’re welcome back anytime!
