I got such a surprise when my friend Lisa said she had a spare ticket for the 80’s Rewind Festival and of course I was there like a bear. She couldn’t think of anyone who would enjoy the show better than me (yikes what does that say about me – kidding!). And of course this was an opportunity to dress up. Oh yes please! 1980’s – I have plenty in my dress up box to work with.
Also I would be getting to watch one of my childhood hero musician’s. No not Belinda Carlisle, not Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet but none other than Rick Astley. Hilarious I know! But my sister and I were slightly obsessed. I remember we had a tape with Kylie on oneside and Rick on the other. Excite excite!
So we dressed up, I had some fishnet gloves, off the shoulder top, velvet leggings and some orange pumps. The others were dressed up too! Think legwarmers and neon!
The concert was long and the bands in the first half were fun – although there was a fairly large portion of the music I was totaly unfamiliar with. But then came the second half. Crumbs a doodle was that fun! I couldn’t believe how much music I knew the words to and hadn’t even heard the song in years. The vibe in the venue was electric and everyone it seems was waiting for Rick.
The crowd went mental when he got on stage – I mean the guy retired at 27 … who does that!? Um Rick does! He had some awesome tunes that everyone sang to and really enjoyed. Seriously the guy hasn’t aged … (besides getting his teeth fixed … hehe). But we were all waiting for the tune “Never Gonna Give You Up”. That started and I was trasnported to the old Woodstock Manse in my sister’s bedroom where we’d dance with hairbrush microphones and sing on the tops of our voices. Total 80’s Rewind (just what the festival’s name suggests)!
What fun Lisa – Thanks for the invite! I had an ABSOLUTE jol xx
