After our lunch at Empire Sarah and I made our way back to the burbs and then headed off into town to Nix’s place where Sarah was staying for a few days. After a good catch up and number of laughs, along with glasses of wine and gorgeous views, we realised our tummy’s were rumbling and food needed to be found.
We thought we’d walk round the corner and try out Mario’s Restaurant on Somerset Road. This has been around for years and I’d heard some good things about it so was excited to try it out.
The restaurant was fairly full so it wasn’t too difficult to get a table. The menu looked rather good, a variety of pizzas and pastas – not much to eat if you’re wheat intolerant, which Nix is.
Can’t say the service was very good … or that the kitchen is very speedy. Also at the price of the food you’d think they have this down to a fine art. We waited for over an hour for our food – with no real concern from the staff.
When our food did arrive I was really happy with mine, spinach and ricotta tortellini with an arabiatta sauce. It was flavorsome – but realistically overpriced for what it was. Sarah’s pizza also looked good and she said it was tasty. Nix was totally disappointed with her meal – veal was very overdone and tough and for well over 120 bucks incredibly disappointing.
It wasn’t the greatest food experience I’ve had and the company definitely made up for the restaurants shortfalls.
Have you been? What did you think?
